Prices for the same type of cremation can differ a lot between providers in the same town. This worksheet lets you enter up to three providers’ prices line by line, so you can see the totals side by side and spot the charges that differ.

Tips for comparing cremation providers
- Ask for the General Price List. Funeral homes must give you an itemized GPL when you ask about arrangements in person, and prices by phone if you call.
- Compare the same services. One provider’s “direct cremation” package may include the crematory fee and a container while another’s doesn’t. Enter each charge on its own line.
- Look for cash advance items. Death certificates, permits, and obituary notices are often paid to third parties and listed separately.
- Ask about the crematory. Ask whether the provider operates its own crematory, and how it identifies the deceased throughout the process.
- Check the license. Confirm the provider is licensed with your state’s funeral or cremation licensing board.
The lowest total is not always the best choice. Consider what’s included, the provider’s responsiveness, and how comfortable you feel with the people you’ll be dealing with.
